Ask any teacher about their workload and they will all say the same thing, that they are snowed under. Ask the same teacher if they would consider changing profession and they will most likely say no. This is because teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs a person can undertake. You directly impact a person’s life for the better while also seeing them grow and develop as a person.

But it is all too easy to overlook this and just think of the endless lesson planning, marking and challenges. It is important to remember that pupils spend more time in school than at home and so the teachers that they interact with will help to shape their lives. Teachers become much more than givers of information, they become friends, role models and hero’s that they will remember for the rest of their lives. When their children go to school, they will talk about their favourite teacher and how they made an impact on them.

This is why it is vital that you take a step back from time to time. Take a chance to evaluate the good that you are doing and use this to motivate you forwards because after all, can you imagine your life without your teachers of the past?
